Introducing our new series  The Perfect Pair,  exploring wine and beer pairings for seafood dishes of all kinds.

A great dish becomes even better when you have just the right pairing to make the flavors sing. Wine shops and breweries in the Boston area give ideas and inspiration for what to drink with fish-focused meals.

Their recommendations for for roasted salmon and greens would also pop with lighter braised dishes, like a seafood and pork stew, or a simple piece of spice-rubbed grilled fish alongside roasted root vegetables.

MAYHEW WINE SHOP

Elios Modus Bibendi Nero d’Avola or A Los Vinateros Bravos Pais

Nero d’Avola’s light, grassy fruitiness pairs well with fall veggies. A Los Vinateros Bravos Pais will amplify flavors in a hearty meal.

BEACON HILL WINE AND GOURMET

Hirsch Chenas or Suvali Pinot Noir

Hirsch Chenas is a fruit forward Beaujolais-ish wine that will complement harvest flavors beautifully. Suvali Pinot Noir has great texture and full fruit to enhance fall flavors.

CASTLE ISLAND BREWING CO.

Fiver IPA

Fiver IPA is intensely aromatic but surprisingly smooth, with enough flavor to hold up to stronger dishes and a clean finish to bring you back for another bite.

MAGNOLIA WINE COMPANY

Oregon Pinot Noir

Oregon Pinot Noir is the “go to” wine for any salmon caught in the Pacific Northwest, so it seems like the sensible pick here. Its sour cherry aromas and smoky notes complement the complexity of salmon.

DISTRACTION BREWING CO.

Doubly Distracted or Parkway Porter

Doubly Distracted’s blend of maltiness and rich tropical fruit notes will nicely enhance the dish’s savory flavors. Parkway Porter, with subtle notes of roasted coffee beans and chocolate, will play nicely with the toasty notes here.

Roasty & Toasty is the fifth in a series of six pairing ideas. Coming next week, get recommendations for pairing Rich & Creamy dishes.

Read recommendations for Sushi & Poke, Fresh & Citrusy, Spicy & Bold, and Pan-Fried.
